Open Source Systems Engineering is emerging out of the transformation of SE practice through the use of language — chief among them SysML and Python.
Origins
OpenMBEE emerged out of this transformation through efforts at ESO, JPL/NASA, and Boeing. The OpenMBEE workshop itself grew out of that work at the INCOSE International Workshop, held alongside the JPL MBSE Symposium.
Our mission
From inception, the goal of OpenMBEE has been to build a community for Open Source Systems Engineering — a companion to the INCOSE community and to the wider professional community for systems engineering.
This year's focus
The 2027 workshop centers on SysML v2 as a new capability for enabling Open Source Systems Engineering. Talks, demos, and modeling activities will cover successful open source endeavors built with SysML v2, its origins in open source, what next-generation SE practitioners need to know about open source, and how open source drives the strategic imperative of systems engineering.
